CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

ACADEMIC CHALLENGE: First semester program that develops and equips a selected academic team with intellectual prowess and knowledge-based strategies to compete with other area schools–sponsored by the Educational Service Center of Lorain County; application required (Grades 7-8). 

ART CLUB: After-school activity that meets at least once a month during the school year and offers opportunities for members to expand their artistic talents and creative abilities; fee required (Grades 6-8). 

ATHLETIC EVENT ASSISTANTS: During the three athletics seasons students can apply to be helpers at home sporting events and contests; typically the jobs include working the gate and set-up (Grades 6-8).

CHESS CLUB: After-school activity that meets at least once a month during the school year and offers an opportunity for students to learn and enhance chess playing skills and strategies (Grades 6-8).

CIRCUIT STRINGS ENSEMBLE: Musical group that includes students who play the violin, viola, cello, and string bass with practice after school and performances at selected school concerts; auditions required (Grade 6).

CULTURE CLUB: After-school world language club that meets at least once a month to foster respect for diversity, provide educational experiences to help students understand their world, encourage students to embrace cross-culturalism, emphasize the importance of cultural competency, and promote opportunities for language and inter-cultural growth; application and possible fee required (Grades 7-8).

DRAMA CLUB: Semester sessions with multiple workshops that are designed to expose members to aspects of live theater and to encourage participation in drama productions, in association with the high school drama club and other local venues; application and fee required (Grades 6-8).

HANDBELLS CHOIR: After-school ensemble comprised of chime and handbell ringers with percussion that meets during the year and performs at selected school concerts and events; audition required (Grades 6-8).

JAZZ BAND: Year-long instrumental group that meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and performs at various school concerts and events; audition and fee required (Grades 6-8).

OFFICE AIDES: Volunteer opportunity during study hall times in which students can be aides and messengers for main office personnel; application is required (Grades 7-8).

PEP BAND: Seasonal instrumental group that meets after school once a week and performs at various school games and events; audition required (Grade 6).

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE: Year-long instrumental group that meets after school once a week and performs at various school concerts and events; audition required (Grade 6).

POPS CHOIR: After-school choral group that meets during the year and performs at selected school choir concerts and events; audition required (Grades 6-8). 

POTTERY CLUB: After-school activity that meets at least once a month during the school year and offers opportunities for members to expand their artistic talents and creative abilities through pottery; fee pending (Grades 6-8). 

POWER OF THE PEN: Year-long, after-school creative writing club that meets once a week and includes district, regional, and state essay contests; audition and fee required (Grades 7-8).

ROBOTICS CLUB: First semester program that develops and equips STEM/robotics teams with technological and strategic prowess to contend with other schools in the First Lego League of Ohio program competition; application and fee required (Grades 7-8).

STUDENT COUNCIL: "StuCo" is a year-long, after-school volunteer student organization that focuses on community outreach, school spirit, leadership development, and service projects while supporting a positive school environment for all students (Grades 6-8).

WINTER SPORTS CLUB: After-school, once-a-week club occurring during January and February at Boston Mills Ski Resort with activities including skiing and snowboarding. Parent meeting is scheduled to explain details of the activity; application and fee required (Grades 6-8).

WIRED STRINGS ENSEMBLE: Musical group that includes students who play the violin, viola, cello, and string bass with practice after school and performances at selected school concerts; auditions required (Grades 7-8).
